Photos: Extra-Oral Full Face End of Chair

Position Instructions:

Set the patient upright in the chair and keep at eye level. Stand at the end of the patients chair and center the crosshairs in the same position for each picture. Keep the patients face in the same orientation for each picture. Keep the patients face (eyes) parallel to the floor. Focus camera so cheeks are clear.

Position Instructions:

Strive to take the photos at the same orientation (plane) as the end of chair photos. Keep the cross hairs in the same location (just below the nose or a position that allows for the mouth to be seen fully in the picture frame). For each picture, focus on Lateral Incisors.

Photos: Intra-Oral Frontal

Position Instructions:

Strive to take the photos at the same orientation (plane) as the end of chair photos and extra-oral mouth photos. Keep the cross hairs in the same location (between the centrals) for each picture. Focus the camera on lateral incisors. Use the large end of the cheek retractors to pull lips away from teeth, keep teeth dry with air.

Photos: Intra-Oral Anterior Teeth with Contrast

Position Instructions:

Use the small end of the cheek retractors, pull lip up and forward. Place the black contrast behind the teeth so that it blocks out all oral tissue in your photo frame. Strive to take the photos in the same orientation as other intra-oral frontal teeth photos.

Position Instructions:

Use small end of the cheek retractors, pull lip up and forward for the maxilla and down and forward of the mandible. Place into the mouth and tilt up or down respectively for appropriate jaw capture all the teeth in the mirror reflection. Have the patient open as wide as they can. Keep the mirror surface dry with light air.

 Utilize this view for a better view of the lingual surfaces of the anterior teeth in the maxilla and/or the mandible.

Photos: Intra-Oral Buccal View

Position Instructions:

Place the large end of a cheek retractor in the opposite corner of the patient’s mouth that will be photographed. Instruct the patient to just rest the retractor in their lips. Slide the buccal mirror between the cheek and the teeth while the patients mouth is open and then instruct the patient to close. Ensure the saliva is removed and the teeth are dry. Take extra care to ensure all the posterior teeth are visible in the mirror and not to injure the patient with the mirror.
